SANDFORD AND LITTLEMORE NEWS

A large number of the planning issues and events affect both Parishes and it is hoped that as a result of the distribution of Littlemore Local and SANDFORD LINK that everyone will be kept better informed. SANDFORD'S FUTURE
Land for housing, employment and recreation needs is required in the Oxford Area, states the Oxford City Council in a consultation document on possible development at Blackbird Leys and Littlemore.

South Oxfordshire District in recognising this need have put forward suggestions for development at Sandford Paper Mill, The Brickworks Site and Land at Temple Farm Country Club.

To discuss these various proposals a Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 18th November 1981, at 8.00p.m. in the Village Hall.

Representatives of Oxford City, South Oxfordshire District Council and the Parish Council will be present.

£400 RAISED
Despite the appalling weather on Saturday 17th October, the second 50-50 auction in the old Reading Room was well attended. Hazel Hutton and others had assembled about 300 lots that came under Den Eaton's hammer from 2 o'clock.

The bidding was generally brisk with a Morris Minor 1000 reaching £27, an almost new cooker was knocked down for £62, and some prints fetched £30. By 5 o'clock £400 had been raised for the new Village Hall.

St.Andrews Church
ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH
As you come down the Henley road from Littlemore the road crosses a brook - and this is the boundary of the Parish of Sandford-on-Thames. Continuing along this road, if you look right, you will see at the top of rising ground the ancient Church of St Andrew, said to have been founded in about the year 1100.

The Parish Register begins in 1572. Until 1840 the Church had remained much as originally built but in 1840 it underwent considerable repair and alteration. It is worth a visit, if only to see the unique carving over the Vicar's stall, dating from the 15th century.

The main Sunday services are a Sung Eucharist (Series 1 & 2 Revised) at 10.0 a.m. and Evensong and Sermon at 6.30 p.m. A said Communion Service (1662) is held at 8.0 a.m. on the first Sunday in the month and at 9.0 a.m. on Thursdays. A musical tradition has been built up during the last sixteen years and we would welcome visitors and any interested in becoming choristers, especially adults (S.A.T.& B.)
