PARISH COUNCIL

At the last meeting of the Parish Council (Feb.) the following matters were discussed (amongst others):-

1. Mrs Nikki King the Councillor who represents Sandford on S.O.D.C. gave up to date information about the stops that the Council are taking to clear the rubbish along the bridle path by the Ten Acre Site. It will not be possible for clearance work to commence until the water strike is over, because the Thames Water Authority have to erect a barrier at the entrance to the bridle way before the clearance work commences. The Council will pay to have the rubbish cleared, but should any further rubbish accumulate on the path then the owners of the path (who are not the Council) will have to pay to have it cleared. It is hoped however that with the barrier erected this will cut down the possibility of rubbish

2. A new Lease of the recreation ground was considered. This is for 20 years from the 29th September 1982 and the rent payable is £50 per year until Sept. 1983, £100 a year until Sept. 1984 and £200 a year until Sept. 1987. Then it will be reviewed and probably increased, and then reviewed again every 5 years. A Surveyor was asked on behalf of the Parish Council to negotiate the terms of the Lease with Magdalen College, who had originally wanted a much higher rent. No better terms could be obtained, and as the alternative would have been the possibility of not having a lease at all, it seemed wise to accept the terms set out. The College cannot grant a lease for longer than 20 years.

3. In November last, the Poppy Appeal in Sandford raised £62-20.

4. It has been decided to conduct a "Village Appraisal". Questionnaire's have been prepared which is hoped everyone will answer. These will help to find out how long people have lived in the Village, where they work, what they would like to see happen in the village in terms of employment, transport, housing and social facilities and the replies will help the next parish Council to plan for the village.

5. A new Parish Council must be elected in May for the next 4 years. Nominations for the new Parish Councillors must be received at the offices of South Oxfordshire Dist. Council by Sat. 9th.April. If you. would like to be nominated for the Parish Council, or would like to nominate someone, collect a nomination form from Mrs. Heery The Clerk, at 73. Henley Road.

6. A suggestion was made that there may be a number of people in Sandford who are able to give some free time to help others, with gardening, shopping or other needs. However, before a scheme of help could start, someone will be needed to organise it, If there is someone who would be willing to do this, could they please contact Mrs. Heery.

7. The next Parish Council meeting will be at 7-00 on Mon. 21st. March. Followed by the annual Parish meeting at 8-00. Please try to attend this meeting on 21st March.

LETTER
(From a forgotten bit of Sandford.)
At least the residents and visitors to Rock Farm Lane have one reason to be grateful for the February cold spell of late.
When the ground is frozen, (and the water) they are able to enter and leave the lane without drowning in One of the many lakes situated there. Perhaps it would be a good idea if, instead of waiting for results from the respective Councils, we all sold our bicycles, cars, etc., and invested in a good team of pack horses and mountain ponies. We would then be better able to negotiate along Rock Farm Lane, especially at night, without danger to life and limb.
V. Cox.
