*****   EDITORS NOTES   *****

The water board has done all it can to co-operate with the villagers regarding the parking of caravans in Brick Kiln Lane and we all appreciate their on-going problems regarding itinerants. However, I hope in the very near future they will start to make improvements to the area and start to get the skips and gravel removed before it becomes a dumping ground for rubbish, especially if the copse is filled in.

We have already had instances where rubble has been tipped off certain lorries blocking both footpath and part of the road, these instances required the use of water authority diggers to remove it. On at least one occasion the police have been called and caught local gypsies loading their pick-up vehicles with gravel. Being gypsies they were told to put it back or offer to pay for it.

THE NEXT PARISH COUNCIL MEETING WILL BE IN THE VILLAGE HALL ON THE 20th FEBRUARY, 1984, AT 7.30 P.M. THE PUBLIC ARE INVITED.

*****   PARISH COUNCIL NOTES   *****

Mrs. N. King, District Councillor, and P.C. J. Dell joined us for this meeting. We are always very glad to have their help and advice and appreciate the time they give to join us.

New plans were considered for the proposed housing development on the Old Mill Site. These had been slightly altered to meet the demands of the County Surveyor. The Parish Council welcomes the development itself, but we repeated our concern that Church Road would be dangerous as access for some 75 extra cars, and hoped that the Highways Dept. would take steps to improve the road.

Extra street lights have been asked for near the Village Hall on either side of the fly-over bridge on the road to Kiln Park. We are asking for estimates for these.

The Council has written again to Magdalen College about the rubbish accumulating on their land round the copse opposite Kiln Park Site. We have had a very prompt reply to our letter from the College. They propose to take action and fill the copse in. Mrs. King reported that a relief warden was being appointed for Ten Acre Site, and that the County Council is working toward provision for another site for travellers. Until such a site is provided it is difficult to remove casual vans from the neighbourhood of Ten Acre Site.

The letter and petition to Mr. Heseltine asking for his support in promoting changes in the Law of Trespass has been circulated through the village and will be sent off this week-end, to Mr. Heseltine and to the Home Office committee currently reviewing the law.

We hope to collect Village Appraisal Questionnaires this week-end. If no-one calls for yours, please hand it in to your nearest Parish Councillor, so that we can process answers in the New Year. We would like to thank Mrs. H. Hutton, Mrs. J. Shepherd, Mrs. Harris and Mr. Partridge for their help in distributing and collecting these questionnaires.

May I take this opportunity of wishing everyone in Sandford A very happy New Year.

Elizabeth Burra.

*****   KILN PARK   *****

Once again the residents of Kiln Park have had problems with the itinerants who are illegally parked behind Ten Acre Drive. On Friday January 20th, whilst being chased by the police, they crashed into a very expensive kennel smashing it and scaring the dog so badly that it ran off causing a great deal of distress to it's owners. (I am glad to say it has been found). Three parked vehicles were damaged in the chase and a couple of fences also damaged.

I am pleased to say that the police were successful in arresting two suspects.

I wonder if the County Councillors had these type of people living near them, whether they would be more inclined to pull their finger out, and find another travellers site.

Another major problem that is occurring in the village is the dumping of old and burnt vehicles. I hope pressure is put on the farmer concerned to have these vehicles shells removed.

*****   COOKERY CORNER   *****

PANCAKE BATTER.

Ingredients:-   4oz (100g) plain flour
pinch of salt
2 eggs
½ pint(3dl) milk
frying fat
Method:- Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl. Make a well in the centre and put in the eggs and a little of the milk. Stir, drawing in the flour gradually and when all is mixed in beat well.
Add the rest of the milk gradually stirring and beating well. When the fat in the pancake pan is really hot pour off any surplus and reserve for the next pancake then pour in just enough batter to cover the bottom of the pan thinly.
Let it cook for a few moments and when it moves when you shake the pan flip it over (if you can toss it is too thick you should be able to 'read a letter through them', and cook the other side for a few moments.
This quantity makes 8 pancakes in a 7 inch (18cm) pan. At their simplest, of course, they are just served with sugar and quarters of lemon.

FILLING FOR PANCAKES.

Ingredients:-   4 bananas,
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 lemon
Method:- Peel the bananas and slice them thinly. Mix with sugar and the juice and grated rind of lemon. Fill the pancakes as desired.
