Sandford Link

It is most unfortunate as you wi1l read in the Council Parish Notes, to at least the next financial year the Parish Council will be unable to support the Sandford Link.

I have thought about discontinuing the Link but I have decided with the help of the advertisements, to continue publication. From time to time it may mean going cap-in-hand for contributions.

It is hoped to continue the Link in exactly the same format as before. Miss Burra has agreed to continue with the Parish Council Notes. I also hope that the clubs and associations in the village, will give me their support in producing copy for me. All other articles for the Link will be gratefully received.



PARVO-VIRUS

There are a number of cases of this disease effecting dogs and puppies in the area. It is a virulent form of Enteritis.

If you have not had your animals inoculated against Parvo, do so now, make sure the injections are up to date.

CLOSURE OF VILLAGE HALL

The Village Mall will be completely closed from October 25th 1985, until October 30th 1985, both days being inclusive. This is to enable the floor to be sanded and polished. You are requested not to go to the Village Hall at all.



SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB

The club meets every other Tuesday from 2-4 pm. All new members will be made most welcome. For further details contact: Marjorie Harris on 777900.

The Parish Council met on 23rd September after rather a long interval. All Councillors were present and so was Mrs. King. Mr. Norton was proposed as our representative on the Management Committee of Speedwell School.

Planning
An interesting planning permission was received from S.O.D.C. for the Manor House. It is to be used for a base for Japanese students (six at a time) who will receive an intensive English course with an induction into English life here, before going to other schools of English elsewhere. Part of the ground floor will be used as a pottery for Mr. and Mrs. Addyman, who own the school. This will be a craft pottery for their own use, not a commercial business. These two concerns should provide an interesting addition to life in Sandford. Permission has been granted initially for 5 years only.

Planning permission has been refused for 3 extra houses adjacent to the Mill House, on the grounds that there is no justification for additional building there. It would detract from the situation of the Mill House itself, which should be an attractive dwelling in its own grounds.

Finance
Much of the meeting was concerned with our financial situation. Like everyone else, the Parish Council is finding it difficult to make both ends meet with the rates at its disposal. We have just enough money to see us through till April, when we draw our next precept. However, we have no money for anything but essentials - these include £300 for the electricity supply to our two new Street lights, our clerics salary, insurance and the audit fee.

Regretfully we agreed that we can no longer afford to finance the Sandford Link, so this will be its last appearance under Parish Council publication. We are very sad about this, as we feel it has come to be a useful agent in letting people know what is going on in Sandford, and we know that many people look forward to it. However, we cannot have what we cannot afford, and this is one of the few expenses we can avoid. We would like to thank Mr. Boyd very much for all the hard work and enthusiasm he has put into the Link during the time of his editorship. We would also like to thank his secretary, Miss Libby Homer, for all her help in the typing and lay-out of the Link,

1 lb raisins or sultanas
8 oz pineapple-drained-chopped finely
½ lb cherries(halved)
½ lb chopped mixed peel
¼ lb chopped dates
½ lb coconut (I prefer ¼ lb and extra fruit)
6 oz flaked almonds
7 oz shortening - e.g. Trex
5 eggs
8 oz plain flower                    ) sifted together
½ teaspoon baking powder    )
½teaspoon salt
8"-9" cake tin - or 2 smaller if preferred

Prepare fruit and mix with 2 oz flour. Cream fat and sugar. Beat eggs in separately. Fold in flour alternately with 7 fl oz pineapple juice. Fold in fruit carefully. Bake in slow oven 300F, gas mark 2, for 1 - 1½ hours according to size.

50/50 AUCTION

Mrs. Hazel Hutton held another auction in the Village Hall where £180 was made for the Village Hall Fund. Many thanks to Hazel and all her helpers.

With the new season the Club is pleased to offer its facilities to those aged 8-14. The hours will be 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and the subscriptions remain the same at 20p per night for members (£1 annual membership) and 30p for non-members.

The Club continues to be less effective than it might be because of a serious, shortage of adult volunteers. Unless more help can be found, it may be necessary to restrict the facilities still further.

All offers of help would be welcomed - please contact Linda Walterfield (Leader) or Mike Norton (Chairman) if you can help in any way.

If you wish to examine the Parish Council minutes or the Parish Council accounts, they will be on view at the County Hall from October 14th 1985, until 25th October 1985 during normal office hours. As a result of this and the closure of the Village Hall, there will be no Parish Council meetings until November 11th 1985.
