There are no notes from the Parish Council again this month, they requested that they write their own notes. It is essential that the village is kept informed of what is happening.
We must insist that now the new Council is being elected that the new
Chairman keeps the electorate informed on the happenings of the Parish
Council deliberations every month. The new Chairman can be assured that
it will be reproduced every month the Sandford Link, as always,
without any alterations.
Parish Council Retirements
It is extremely unfortunate at this election two of the most stable
influences on the Parish Council have decided not to seek re-election.
They are Mrs Elizabeth Agulnik and Mr George Hutchinson. On behalf of
the village I would like to thank them for all the hard work they have
put in.
District Council Elections
The Baldon/Clifton ton Hampden/Sandford areas of South Oxfordshire will not have an election for a District Councillor this time as the very able Mrs Nikki King has been returned unopposed.
Mrs King who lives at the Vineyard, Clifton Hampden - Telephone Clifton
Hampden 7762 has been our District Councillor for the past five years and
attends the Parish Council meetings regularly. She is always very willing
to help or speak to any parishioner on any problem.
Sandford Directory
In June I hope to produce a new Sandford Directory. I am looking towards
the Chairman/Secretaries of all local organisations to give me details of
their activities. I will be approaching the business's in the area to
place small adverts to help with the cost and if anyone has their own
small side-line they would like mentioned, this can be done for a very
small fee.
Village Fete
Don't forget the Fete on July 4th
It is with a sense of shock and deep sadness that: we heard of the sudden death of Mrs Heery. She was so important a part of Sandford life for so long that it is very difficult to imagine the village without her.
As Clerk to the parish Council for fourteen years, she has supported Sandford's interests with unfailing loyalty, and has been a mine of information and help to succeeding chairmen. When I became chairman, with very little experience of council work, I could not have managed without Mrs Heery's knowledge, experience, and ability to find out what we did not know, and I shall always be grateful for her courage, loyalty and staunch support. As she said herself, the Parish Clerk always receives all the grumbles and complaints when things go wrong, which is no easy task, but she dealt with these cheerfully and worked hard to put things right where possible. We shall remember her too for her Council minutes and contributions to the meetings, her correction when our procedures were not according to Local Council Law, and her interest in village history.
Sandford will miss her for her faithful contributions and help to so many village functions, and the work of the Village Hall, and we know she will be a great loss to the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
Our deep sympathy goes to Mr Heery, Gina and Michael. The energy and
love she gave to her family and friends and to her work for Sandford
will remain as an example to us all.
The Annual Church Bazaar for the upkeep of the Church made a record
£354 this year on one of the wettest Saturdays of the year. Many thanks
to everyone who helped and who came and bought.
Has anyone lost a big black rabbit? If so, it was found in the King's
Arms car park in March. For further information contact Oxford 774387.
Angling Club
At the beginning of this year I said that I would look into setting up an Angling Club for under 16's. I am pleased that the idea can now become a reality and will do so as of the ]6th June this year. The Club is open to all young persons under the age of 16 on or before the 16th June this year. Membership is open to anyone living in or around the Oxford area and will be limited this year to 50 members. The Club will be run along the same lines as an adult Club with a full range of trophies available to be fished for this year. Open matches and pools will also be available. Membership cards will be available from Dell's Tackle Shop in Oxford Road, Sandford Youth Club on Wednesday evenings, 7pm 9pm, or from Gina at 73, Henley Road, Sandford. Membership will cost £1.00. Full details of matches, venues and trophies are in the card.
If you are interested in joining, don't delay, the limit of 50 will be
quickly reached. The first match is on the 20th June for the new Season.
Trophy, pools will be available on the day. The venue will be the
Littlemore Angling Club's water at Sandford.
A REMINDER Please, the yellow zigzag . lines outside the two schools in
Sandford Road are there to help prevent, a child being injured or worse.
If you park, wait or stop for any amount of time on these areas YOU
directly put a childs life at risk. It only takes a second for a child
to run out into the road from the school exit, if its clear, driver
approaching has time to stop, maybe. If your car shields that child's
first few steps.......?
If you stop in these areas or adjacent to the double white lines across
the bridge, I will report you. The fine is presently £24.00.
