"THE LINK"

SANDFORD ON THAMES COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

      We would like to introduce you to Sandford on Thames Community Association's first Newsletter. At a meeting on 25th September, it was decided to establish a community association, and its first priority will be to produce a newsletter to replace the now defunct Sandford Link. Initially this monthly newsletter will give announcements of forthcoming events in the village and the Community Association's news. eventually it hopes to cover a wide range of topics of information and interest.

      The Association is looking for someone who is interested in editing the newsletter as well as people who are willing to contribute regular news about each of the following organisations:

      Parish Council; Village Hall; Sandford Church; Churches of other denominations in Oxford; Playgroup, Youth Club, Forget Me Not, Local Schools.

      Plus people who would be willing to compile a section on each of the following topics:

      Sport; classified advertisements; letters to the Editor; children's section; local history; cooking/recipes; gardening; adults' crossword; what's on around the area.

      Anyone who is interested or would like to know more is invited to attend the next meeting of the Community Association, or to contact one of the following members:

Carl Reynolds Oxf. xxxx     Anne Addyman   Oxf. xxxx
Linda Waterfield   Oxf. xxxx     Bridget Neil Oxf. xxxx

Community Association Meeting 25th September 1987

The items discussed during the meeting included:

i. How to set up a community association and the possibility of inviting people who have successfully run community groups coming to give advice;

ii. The necessity to provide a means of communication in the village as the Sandford Link has ceased and the Post Office has closed. At present, there is no way to pass on village news or promote functions held in the village. The job of editing the newsletter would be assisted by regular contributors on various topics (hence the appeal in this Newsletter);

iii. The Community Association would like to hold a large event each year to build up funds for all village purposes (i.e. village newsletter, Church, Hall, youth, elderly, etc.) However, funds are needed immediately so a monthly car boot/table top sale and a 50/50 auction were suggested as means of raising money in the immediate future;

iv. A dance for adults and a Christmas party for children;

v. The position and kind of larger event that may take place in 1988.

All these topics will be discussed at the next meeting of the Community Association on WEDNESDAY, 26th OCTOBER AT 7.30 p.m. in Sandford on Thames Village Hall. EACH MEMBER OF THE VILLAGE IS A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION. If you can't attend the meeting, any comments or suggestions you may wish to make can be made through any member attending, or alternatively, please contact any of the above mentioned.

      Thank youCarl Reynolds (Chairman)
