The Link needs news items for the front pages each month. If you are aware of anything which may be going on, in and around our village, no matter how small, which may be of interest to the village at large, please write it down or just let us know about it. If you can provide a photograph all the better. Dont worry we dont expect you to have it all written out ready for printing, we will take care of that bit along with the punctuation etc. So come on, lets have some real news to print in the May edition. Any items or information should be left with the editor Belinda, at xx Henley Rd. Thankyou.

The new community at Heyford Hill Lane seems to growing very fast. Houses going up like the Spring grass. If you live in the new houses or know of someone who is living there, ask if they might like to start receiving the Link each month. If people living in that area would like the Link and we can get someone to deliver to the homes there we will make the necessary increase in our circulation gladly

PLEASE NOTE: There is now a new deadline for submission of articles for The Link. ALL ARTICLES MUST BE IN BY 6pm ON THE 18th OF EACH MONTH TO xx HENLEY ROAD, in sealed envelope marked LINK please.

EVENSONG AT SANDFORD

The clocks turned back at Easter, and the arrival of Spring brought liturgical change to Sandford. Christian hedgehogs who hibernate during the Winter months when there is no regular Sunday evening service welcome the church bell inviting them back to the 6.30 service. This uses the rich and resonant words that have been uttered in St Andrews since 1549, when Elizabethan English. (the first ER) replaced latin with the Book of Common Prayer. It sounds a bit old fashioned now and that is why the 10 a.m. service has partly changed to modern words.

But some of us prefer the older rhythms. We find they provide a vehicle for lifting up our hearth and minds to God, and letting God clear away the weeks cobwebs and service us for the week ahead. They express the joy and gratitude that we feel deep inside ourselves which we cannot always put adequately into our own words. And they heal the hurt of damaged relationships. They teach us to feel the way we know we ought to feel about a whole lot of things. And they give us the markers for finding our way through life, and point us to the goal of becoming and being the men and women we are meant to be.

The words of invitation will be spoken again in Sandford this Summer at about 6.32 p.m. each. Sunday. They offer a vocabulary quite different from Dallas or Dynasty, or what we read in our papers, and hear from government and opposition leaders. They are out of tune with the times and some think that hard words like sin, forgiveness, humility, praise and God are better forgotten. Others realise that if we forget them we shall have lost something essential to our humanity. So to quote from the prayer book invitation:

'Dearly beloved.....confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy....(Especially) when we assemble and meet together to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary, as well for the body as the soul.
Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me with a pure heart, and humble voice, unto the throne of the heavenly grace.'

A.G.M, VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE.
6th MARCH 1989

It was a pleasure to see a number of villagers showing their interest and support by attending. Also to see the beautiful picture of Sandford, painted by Sandra Bowyer, and framed by Dennis Harris, which is now on show in the hall and greatly admired. Bob Absolom, the newly elected Chairman offered his thanks to both Sandra and Dennis. Regretably both Sandra and Dennis, together with Marjorie Harris and Carl Reynolds are resigning from the committee. They will be greatly missed and we thank them for their help and assistance.

Following Marjories resignation, it was decided to split the job of secretary and booking clerk. Gina Ashburner has now. taken on the job of booking secretary. Sally Holmes volunteered as secretary and was subsequently elected, Sally is warmly welcomed to the committee, John Williams offered to stand again as treasurer. Sue Norton was welcomed back after a long absence following a nasty road accident. We were all pleased to see her fully recovered. Mr All Robinson also offered to serve on the committee and things are looking positive for the coming year.

To enable the 200 club to continue, more participants are needed - also volunteers to collect the money in their immediate area. Please, phone Bob Absolom xxxxxx if you can help or would like a share at £1.00 a month or preferably one payment of £12. Prizes each month of £50 £20 &£10.

The Easter Raffle will be drawn at the next meeting. 21st March in the village Hall.

TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor
Every morning this week, I (and I'm sure my neighbours ) have been awakened at 6.30am by the extremely noisy and irritating racket of a motorcycle.
Being impelled, through irritation, to get out of bed, I looked through the window and was astonished to see that a small moped was actually responsible for this cacophony.
I assume that this vehicle has no silencer and I would like to point out to its owner that not only is this anti social but is also an offence for which its rider can be prosecuted.

NAME &ADDRESS SUPPLIED.

"PAUSE FOR THOUGHT"       APRIL

It takes a lot to put complete trust into someone, but we can be assured that. God will never fail us if we put our trust in him.

Proverbs 3 : 5-6
Trust wholeheartedly in God,
Put no faith in your own perception;
in every course you take, have him in mind,
he will see that your paths are smooth.

CHILDRENS SOCIETY WEEK
APRIL 2-8

The Childrens Society cares for children, young people and their families. Last year it cost the society £13 million to run 126 projects and help more than 11,000 young people to overcome the pressures they are under. But the society needs to expand Its work to help many more young people.

During Childrens Society Week many homes in Sandford will be receiving an envelope which will be delivered and collected later.

Please think carefully about making a donation In that envelope. There are so many children and young people who need. the societies support. Your gift will show that there are people who care.

If you would like to help in delivering envelopes and collecting them later please let me know.
